Adia Sowho has stepped down as Chief Marketing Officer at MTN Nigeria, ending her three-year tenure that started in August 2021.
As MTN’s chief marketing strategist, Sowho was key in propelling the company’s ambition to evolve into a full-fledged technology company by 2025.
According to Business Day, sources inside the firm confirmed that her departure was a mutual decision.
The current Chief Customer Relations Officer, Ugonwa Nwoye, will serve as the acting Chief Marketing Officer, sources said.
Sowho’s telecommunications career started in 2001 as a Radio Frequency Engineer at the US Cellular Corporation in the United States. In 2010, she returned to Nigeria to work at 9mobile (formerly Etisalat), where she served in several roles, such as Head of Strategy and Business Development, Head of Digital Media, and Director of Digital Business.
Following her exit from 9mobile in 2018, Sowho became the Managing Director and Vice President of Growth at Migo.
Additionally, she served briefly as the interim Chief Executive Officer of the agritech startup ThriveAgric around 2020, where she effectively managed the company’s financial crisis and led it back to stability.
