Representative Dominic Okafor, who represents the Aguata Federal Constituency of Anambra State, has threatened to pursue legal action over a media report alleging that he accepted a $140 million bribe from Binance.
He made this declaration while addressing journalists at the House of Representatives on Friday.
Okafor asserted that the publication aimed to tarnish his name and integrity following his motion to investigate the escape of Binance executive Nadeem Anjarwalla from Nigerian security custody.
He stated: “Shortly after I moved that motion, which received widespread acclaim with many people commending me, I began receiving calls from friends worldwide claiming I had taken bribes from this company. Troubled by this, I wrote a letter to Premium Times, the media outlet behind the story.”
“I penned a letter to them, copying the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Clerk, Inspector General of Police, EFCC, and DSS. I demanded they retract the information within 24 hours, failing which I will pursue legal recourse against them.”
Recall that Binance executive made bribery allegations against members of a ‘federal government’s committee’, sparking controversy within the cryptocurrency trading platform.
