The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has said it spent a total of N1.65bn in 16 months as donations to various organisations and others not disclosed.
This was contained in the NNPCL consolidated and separate financial statements covering September 2021 to December 2022.
In the report, NNPCL highlighted that “the Group and Company during the period donated a total sum of N1.3 billion and N314 million respectively to various charitable organisations, higher education institutions and other organisations during the 16-month period ended 31 December 2022”.
Some of the beneficiaries of the donations are: NNPC National Quiz winners, the Nigeria Union Of Petroleum And Natural Gas Workers, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, Peace Builders Association, KASU Academic Research Centre, Delta South Deaf Sports Association, Nigeria Association of the Blind Day, the Nigerian Bar Association, the Nigerian Annual International Conference and Exhibition, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, Others.
In the report, NNPC National Quiz winners got a total of N2m from both the group and the company.
NUPENG and PENGASSAN got a total sum of N90m; Peace Builders Association received N5m; KASU Academic Research Centre got N1m; Delta South Deaf Sports Association, N1m; Nigeria Association of the Blind Day, N1m; the Nigerian Bar Association, N1m; the Nigerian Annual International Conference and Exhibition, N1m; the Nigerian Society of Engineers got N2m and the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, N2m.
The NNPCL said the larger chunk of the fund was donated to “others”, which were not specifically mentioned.
In the report, the so-called “Others” got a total sum of N1.57bn as donations within the 16-month period.
Meanwhile, the NNPCL clarified that “no donation was made to any political party during the period”.
The PUNCH reported earlier that the petroleum company spent an estimated NN2.9tn on wages, entertainment, bank charges, running cost and others between September 2021 and December 2022.
