According to entreprenuerng.com, diabetes, often known as diabetes mellitus, is a chronic illness that raises blood sugar levels. It happens when there is insufficient insulin produced or when body cells do not react to insulin as they should. Frequent urination, extreme hunger and thirst, unexplained weight gain or loss, exhaustion, male sexual dysfunction, and numbness in the hands and feet are among its most typical symptoms.

Types of diabetes

Diabetes type 1, in which insulin is not produced by the body.

Type 2 diabetes is characterized by insufficient insulin production in the body for normal function.

There is also gestational diabetes, which affects women who are pregnant.

You don’t have to limit yourself to bland or boring meals because there are lots of enjoyable, healthful meals that won’t raise your blood sugar levels if you have diabetes.

The following is a selection of nutritious regional foods that fit within a diabetic’s menu:

1. Nigerian soups: Afang soup, Waterleaf soup, Ogbono soup, Egusi soup, Edikan Ikong, vegetable soup, and okra soup

2. Swallow staple foods: unripe plantains, guinea corn, and wheatmeal

3. Stews and sauces: it include smoked fish sauce, tomato stew, garden egg stew, shredded chicken sauce, shrimp sauce, and fresh fish sauce or stew.

4. Low-carb dishes: stew made with brown basmati rice, A dish of unripe plantains, Moi Moi, plantain boiled with stew, plantain roasted with fish sauce, plantain porridge with beans, Whole wheat bread and beans

5. Snacks: such as boiled groundnuts, coconuts, akara balls, tiger nuts, and Nigerian pears.

6. Comfort foods: include pigeon peas, gizzard pepper soup, fish soup, chicken soup, snail soup, peppered snail, liver sauce, and isi ewu.

7. Healthy beverages: millet (joro) kunu, guinea corn (Dawa) kunu, unsweetened yoghurt, and Zobo without sweets
