Heirs Energies, the foremost indigenous-owned integrated energy company in Africa, recently marked its third anniversary, celebrating a short yet impactful journey. Within this brief period, Heirs Energy has established a notable track record of substantial production increases, introduced an innovative model of community engagement, and assembled a world-class Nigerian management team. These achievements contribute significantly to shaping a new era in ensuring Nigeria’s sustainable energy future.

Launched in January 2021, Heirs Energies emerged after completing an eight-year, $1.2 billion transaction to acquire the oil license OML17 from the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, Total E&P Nigeria Limited, and ENI. This move solidified the joint venture partnership with NNPC Limited, positioning Heirs Energies as a key player in the country’s energy landscape.

Reflecting on the vision for Heirs Energies, Chairman Tony Elumelu expressed admiration for the progress made. Having witnessed firsthand the mishandling of Nigeria’s resource wealth in the Niger Delta, Elumelu envisioned a better path for the energy sector—one that serves Nigeria’s interests. He aimed to establish Africa’s largest indigenous-owned integrated energy company, focusing on the continent’s distinct energy needs. Looking back, Elumelu noted, “As I look back now, we have more than succeeded.”

In praising the dedicated team, Elumelu expressed deep gratitude for their commitment to his vision of creating value for all stakeholders within the energy sector. The three-year milestone serves as a testament to Heirs Energies’ rapid growth and positive impact on Nigeria’s energy landscape under the strategic leadership of Tony Elumelu and the collaborative efforts of the entire team.
