Senator Remi Tinubu, spouse of President Bola Tinubu, recently undertook a philanthropic endeavor, wherein she disbursed cash gifts of N100,000 to each of the carefully selected 250 elderly individuals in Rivers. The distribution ceremony, marked by a noteworthy presence, saw Tinubu represented by Valarie Fubara, the wife of the Rivers Governor.

In her address, Mrs. Remi Tinubu underscored the initiative as an integral part of President Tinubu’s overarching agenda to bolster the socio-economic fabric of the nation. She expounded on the administration’s commitment and determination to support the aged and the elderly, fostering an environment conducive for them to engage in productive ventures.

“The commitment and determination of the president’s agenda towards supporting the aged and the elderly, to enable them to engage in productive ventures, prompted this initiative,” Mrs. Remi Tinubu declared. Furthermore, she articulated a profound commitment to enhancing the welfare of the elderly citizens, emphasizing inclusiveness and compassion as pivotal elements of the scheme. She affirmed that the initiative sought to ensure that no one would be left out, thereby fostering a sense of unity and shared responsibility among Nigerians.

The paramount objective of the initiative was clearly elucidated by Mrs. Remi Tinubu: the promotion of inclusiveness and compassion while prioritizing the well-being of the aged and the elderly, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the nation. In her words, “This scheme was to support 250 vulnerable elderly citizens, aged 65 and above.”

In light of the prevailing economic challenges, Mrs. Tinubu assured the recipients that the initiative was not merely a symbolic gesture but a practical means to alleviate economic hardships. She conveyed, “This was also to cushion the effect of the economic situation as well as alleviate the economic hardship being experienced by our esteemed elders.”

Encouraging the elderly to embrace life fully, prioritize health, and strengthen bonds with loved ones and with God, Mrs. Remi Tinubu’s message resonated as both compassionate and empowering.

The scope of support wasn’t limited to the elderly alone. Tinubu went on to assure that the young, old, and less privileged segments of the population would also benefit from economic empowerment initiatives. She outlined plans to empower millions of families and provide training for farmers on accessing fertilizers, seedlings, and equipment to enhance agricultural productivity.

Valarie Fubara, wife of the Rivers Governor, echoed the sentiments expressed by Mrs. Tinubu, emphasizing the replication of the Renewed Hope Initiative in the state. She affirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the success of the initiative in all its facets.

Deputy Governor Prof Ngozi Odu, in her remarks, lauded the scheme as a tangible demonstration of concern for the elderly in the country. She highlighted that beneficiaries not only received financial grants but were also educated on the importance of regular medical check-ups to monitor and maintain their health.
