Exclusive information obtained by Nairametrics reveals that the Dangote refinery, boasting a daily capacity of 650,000 barrels, is poised to generate an impressive annual revenue of $27 billion when operating at full capacity.
Initially refining 350,000 barrels daily, the facility plans a subsequent expansion to its maximum capacity. The initial phase will prioritize the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and gas, with petrol production scheduled later.
Revenue Sources and Expansion Plans
The Dangote refinery’s revenue stream will stem from various fuels, including petrol, aviation fuel, kerosene, and diesel. Additionally, the facility will produce urea and polypropylene, catering to both domestic and international markets.
Specialized products like naphtha and polypropylene are expected to stimulate growth in cosmetics, plastics, and textiles.
Designed to process Nigerian crude oil, the refinery is adaptable to crude from various sources, including African countries, the Middle East, and the United States.
According to company data, motor gasoline (petrol) production is forecasted to surge from virtually zero to approximately 249,000 barrels per day by 2026, reaching over 300,000 per day by 2033. This surge is anticipated to reduce petrol imports by more than half, dropping to 154,000 barrels per day by 2026.
The recent reception of the refinery’s first batch of crude oil, following an agreement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), underscores its operational initiation.
Billionaire Endorsement and Environmental Responsibility
Billionaire industrialist Femi Otedola anticipates that the Dangote refinery will contribute significantly to Nigeria’s economic transformation, estimating a revenue of $20 billion. He lauded the facility’s incorporation of advanced carbon capture technologies, projecting over 90% carbon emissions capture, aligning with Nigeria’s net-zero emissions goal by 2060.
Emphasizing environmental responsibility, Otedola noted the refinery’s water recycling process and highlighted its energy efficiency innovations. The facility harnesses the heat generated during production to generate 50MW of power.
Key Features and Global Alignment
The Dangote Refinery features advanced infrastructure, including Single Point Moorings (SPMs) for crude oil reception and discharge of petroleum products. With a capacity to load 2,900 trucks daily and a self-sufficient marine facility accommodating global vessels, the refinery is poised for efficient distribution and international connectivity.
All products from the facility adhere to Euro V specifications, demonstrating a commitment to high environmental and quality standards, aligning with global environmental objectives and market demands.
In summary, the Dangote Refinery’s strategic expansion plans and commitment to environmental responsibility position it as a key player in Nigeria’s economic growth and the global push for cleaner energy solutions.
