The Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress recently interfered with Air Peace’s operations, which disappointed the company’s management, Entrepreneurng.com.
The airline claimed in a statement released on Wednesday that the unions’ actions were unjustified and had significantly inconvenienced its customers. According to information, union representatives assaulted the airline counter at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The incident caused more disruption to airline operations because customers appeared to be trapped. The response to the violent disruption of Workers’ Day festivities in Imo State by purported state government representatives was the action.
The unions had written to the airline requesting that no flights be serviced into Owerri today due to the alleged disruption of their May Day celebrations by Governor Hope Uzodimma a few days ago. The airlines, however, insisted that they were in no way associated with Governor Uzodimma or the Imo State government.
“Our duty and commitment are to the Nigerian flying public that has paid us,” the statement said. They must deliver as per our agreements with them. They attacked Air Peace specifically this morning, grabbed control of our counters, and interfered with our activities.”
“Another Nigerian airline was permitted to fly into and out of Owerri while they were doing this. They seized control of our counters in Owerri, Abuja, and Lagos, interrupting more than 110 Air Peace flights.
“The airline will lose more than 700 million naira as a result of this specific illegal action by NLC and TUC. It will also cause numerous delays and cancellations of our flights across the nation today, and those effects will continue into the upcoming days.”
“The NLC or unions have previously attacked Air Peace over concerns that have nothing to do with the airline. When Air Peace was protesting the federal government’s minimum wage, they once attacked the organization. The minimum wage at Air Peace was even higher than the then-minimum wage of 18,000 naira, at 50,000 naira.”
“It is even more concerning that the security authorities are observing as an airline performing its obligations to the nation is pursued and harassed by outlaws at these airports, and this is not the first instance. We are baffled as to why Air Peace and aviation were chosen for such abuse.”
If they have a complaint about Governor Uzodimma, Imo State should be contacted. Why don’t they stop the drivers of trucks headed towards Imo State?
Aviation threatens national security, making us the laughing stock of the world,” Who would reimburse Air Peace for the 400 million naira it lost today and in the days to come?
Conclusion
We take this opportunity to inform the Nigerian flying public that all of our flights will be canceled and delayed today and in the upcoming days.
Due to this illegal occupation of our operations, most sunset airports will experience cancellations for any flights we fail to operate today. Who will assume accountability for this? We feel incredibly exposed, as earlier reported by punch.com
