May Day: The FG gives N10,000 to 1.6 million households every two months – Ngige

As part of its strategy to lessen suffering among the populace, the administration of President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.) announced on Monday that 1.6 million poor households get payments of N10,000 every two months, Entrepreneurng report.

This was announced by Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour, Employment, and Productivity, on Monday at the 2023 International Workers’ Day celebrations in Eagle Square in Abuja.

“President Muhammadu Buhari launched the National Social Investment Programme in 2016, which is currently one of the largest such programs in the world and the largest in Africa,” he stated.

“The National Social Register of Poor and Vulnerable Nigerians (NSR) currently includes 32.6 million people from over 7 million poor and vulnerable families spread among 708 Local Government areas, 8,723 wards, and 86,610 communities in the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).”

The Conditional Cash Transfer program, which provides a stipend of N10,000 per household every two months, is currently helping 1.6 million poor and vulnerable households, totaling more than eight million people in 45,744 communities and 5,483 Wards of 557 LGAs in 35 states and the FCT.

Ngige continued by mentioning the regime’s attempts to raise the standard of living for Nigerians.

“The Buhari Administration’s National Social Housing Scheme is being implemented through the Family Homes Fund Limited, which was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in September 2016.”

“Under the Buhari administration’s Social Housing Programme, more than two thousand (2,000) hectares of land with titled documents have been supplied by 24 states. This land can accommodate roughly 65,000 new residences.”

“Under the National Social Housing Program, Nigerians will have at least 15 years to pay for each housing unit with a monthly payment at a 6% interest rate. An N200 billion financing facility is offered by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is secured by the FGN.”

In conclusion, workers in states like Enugu, Nassarawa, Delta, and Kano have benefited from the program, he pointed out.
