Family members of one of the victims of the terrible train disaster that occurred on Thursday in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, bemoan the suffering they must endure now that their daughter has passed away.
27-year-old Aina Oreoluwa Juliana was one of the six people who perished in the train catastrophe that occurred near the PWD bus stop on March 9, 2023.
Given that she was referred to as “a very nice person,” her family claims that the news of her passing still feels surreal to them.
Aina Oreoluwa was working for the Lagos State Ministry of Education as part of the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) when she tragically passed away.
On Thursday, a Lagos State Government bus carrying 85 passengers pulled up to a PWD bus stop in the Ikeja neighborhood of Lagos, the nation’s largest commercial center.
The bus is jammed in a speeding railroad. The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stated that the accident was caused by a driving error according to the preliminary report.
“85 passengers in the bus, six perish and 29 suffer “severe injuries,” eight of the remaining others suffer from “light harm,” while the other 42 suffer from “moderate injury.”
To determine the true reason for her death, according to her uncle Tope Aina, an autopsy will be performed on her.”I don’t observe any physical damage or injuries to her body. Only the head is plastered and has her name written on it that I can see, not the chest.
Oreoluwa is the family’s first grandchild, according to her aunt Seun, and she has plans, hopes, and ambitions for her. After completing her NYSC, she continued by saying that Oreoluwa had a cause for traveling to the UK to pursue her master’s degree.
It still seems like a dream to me, as in, “Make pesin just wake me up and tell me that Ore just went work, she don come back.”
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, paid a visit to Oreoluwa’s family as well as the relatives of the other victims. I sent my condolences to the families and said, “Accept the death of your loved ones in good faith and consider it as an act of God.
Finally, Muhammadu Buhari, the president of Nigeria, also attended the memorial service for the victims of the deadly accident. After the accident, the injured people who have been treated at various hospitals throughout the state have complied with the government’s request that they give blood. The driver who survived the collision is being held in police custody for additional inquiries.
