Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, announced on Saturday that his administration, along with those of Ogun and Lagos states, is working on plans to illuminate the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Entrepreneurng report.
Makinde revealed this while participating in a political program called State Affairs on Splash FM 105.5 in Ibadan. He claimed that if elected for a second term, he had started a conversation with his counterpart in Lagos state about the prospect of lighting up the full stretch of the highway.
According to Taiwo Adisa, his chief press secretary, “The proposed project will benefit all three states. We are investigating under Omituntun 2.0, and I am speaking with my colleagues in the states of Ogun and Lagos. The distance from Lagos to Ibadan is 120 kilometers.
We have constructed infrastructure along 250 km of our route as part of the Light-Up Oyo project. Hence, we can accomplish it. Nothing in the law prohibits you from traveling from Lagos to Ibadan at any time of the day or night.
I can assure you that it will take place. As for Lagos, they have access up to the Berger bridgehead, while Ogun State has access up to Onigaari. They stretch the furthest. And if we suggest that each state should carry its fair portion of the burden, they will.

But I emphasized to my Lagos-based colleague that we should all benefit from this. We will do it, even if it means splitting the load in a way that encourages Ogun State to join. But Omituntun 2.0 will bring about this situation.
The governor urged state residents to vote for him to be re-elected on Saturday, March 11, as well as candidates from the Peoples Democratic Party for seats in the House of Assembly. He also used the opportunity of the program to provide a scorecard of his administration across the four pillars of government.
In his words, “Saturday’s election is a no-contest” because the state has been socially, economically, and politically stable throughout his administration, and “the people have promised never to return to politics of desperation (jagua politics).”
Although being a one-day event, Makinde claimed that the election’s impact and ramifications will be felt by locals for a further four years. He also asserted that he was confident the people had complete faith in him to maintain the sociopolitical stability the state was currently experiencing.
“As a result, I want to encourage our people to go outside without being afraid. Make your decision in public. Vote for me one more. You took decisive action by supporting me on March 9th, 2019, and the outcome is what we have enjoyed in the state for more than three years.
Go out and do the same thing on March 11, 2023, and we’ll have the Oyo State of your dreams.”Today, out of the 48 months of this tenure, civil servants and pensioners will receive payments for 45 consecutive months. Something is indeed gone to the tune of 94%.
Again, Come out to vote for PDP and all of the PDP House of Assembly candidates if you want to expand it and go beyond 48 and even to 49, 50, and 96. I shall collaborate with the members of the House of Assembly who will approve the budgets and laws we wish to pass into law.
Hence, on Saturday, vote in masse for the PDP. Speaking about what state residents can anticipate under Omituntun 2.0, Makinde said that there hasn’t been much progress made in terms of infrastructure improvement and economic growth.
He promised that if re-elected, the government would start several projects, such as the Ilutuntun Business District in Akinyele, which will include a hub for young people’s digital technology.
However, in response to inquiries about how his administration has performed in the field of education, the governor noted that it has been able to implement a significant infrastructure reform and return about 60,000 students to the classrooms through its numerous initiatives to provide free and high-quality education.
In conclusion, he bragged that the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, LAUTECH, had consistently ranked as the best state university in the nation for the previous three years, contributing to the administration’s achievements in the tertiary education sector.
