The Federal Government of Nigeria has set aside more than ₦132 billion in the 2025 budget to assist farmers via the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF).

The NADF was founded in October 2022 with the goal of tackling issues that have impeded Nigeria’s agricultural development, including poverty, low productivity, and restricted access to resources.

The fund prioritises food security while concentrating on a number of agricultural development topics, such as crop production, livestock, fisheries, poultry, and agroforestry.

It is anticipated that the ₦132 billion will give farmers access to vital resources like better seeds, fertiliser, irrigation systems, and market opportunities.

Through tackling issues like limited loan availability, inadequate infrastructure, and the consequences of climate change, this program seeks to empower smallholder farmers, who make up more than 80% of Nigeria’s agricultural workforce.

Furthermore, a total of ₦826.5 billion has been allocated to the agriculture sector in the 2025 budget, indicating a revolutionary strategy to revive Nigerian agriculture.

Experts have voiced cautious optimism on the possible effects of these allocations, highlighting the necessity of efficient use, accountability, transparency, and prompt release to guarantee the money reaches the right people.

It is expected that these steps will strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural value chain by opening the door for more sustainable farming methods, higher crop yields, and easier access to markets.
